Churchill drama in the pipeline
With 2015 marking 50 years since the death of Winston Churchill, ITV is preparing a major new drama based on Jonathan Smith’s book, KBO: The Churchill Secret.
The summer of 1953 is generally regarded as a time of great celebration for the British public, with the coronation of Elizabeth II being a major highlight. However, behind the doors of 10 Downing Street a potential disaster was being played out, as the elderly Prime Minster suffered a stroke after a diplomatic dinner.
Churchill spent the summer gradually recovering, a fact which for the most part was hidden from the public – partly by agreement with top newspaper editors – as concerns grew about his ability to continue to lead the country on the world stage.
The drama comes from Daybreak Pictures and is currently eyeing a summer shoot. Subscribers to Production Intelligence can find the names of the executive producers and producer listed from today with updates to follow over the coming weeks of dates and crucial hires.
Eagle eyed Churchill aficionados will also have spotted on Production Intelligence details of a major new feature film about the great statesman; we are in contact with the lovely LA-based producer and will soon have concrete news on dates and HoDs. ÂÂ
