Benedict Cumberbatch takes on Richard III

Benedict Cumberbatch is heading up a Who’s Who of A-list talent as cameras prepare to roll on The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses.

The major new Shakespeare project from the BBC, Neal Street Productions and Carnival Film & TV takes the form of three feature length dramas, adaptations of Shakespeare’s tetralogy of Henry VI parts 1 and 2 and Richard III.

Among the weighty cast starring alongside Cumberbatch as Richard III are Sophie Okonedo as Queen Margaret, Tom Sturridge as Henry VI and Judi Dench as Cecily, Duchess of York. Keeley Hawes, Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins are also on board.

Ben Power has adapted the three films, all of which will be directed by Dominic Cooke. The executive producers are Sam Mendes, Pippa Neal, Nicholas Brown, David Horn and Gareth Neame. Rupert Ryle-Hodges is the producer.
