Martin Clunes prepares to play Conan Doyle
Filming starts in September on Arthur & George, an ITV adaptation of Julian Barnes’ 2005 novel of the same name.
Set in 1903 and based on real events, the story follows Sherlock Holmes creator and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as he sets about challenging a notorious miscarriage of justice, trying to overturn the conviction of solicitor George Edalji for allegedly harming animals and writing threatening letters.
The case reinvigorated Conan Doyle, who had been in mourning since the death of his wife Louisa. ÂÂ
The 3 x 60 adaptation has been written by Ed Whitmore, and comes from Doc Martin producer Philippa Braithwaite of Buffalo Pictures; filming takes place in Staffordshire and Greater London.
