There are reports this week that Citrus Television, co-producers of the CBBC TV series Horrible Histories, is hoping to make a feature film version of the franchise.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, the show”s producer Caroline Norris said: “We are in negotiations on a movie and we”re trying to sort out the rights with a US company.”

Horrible Histories began airing on CBBC in 2009 having been adapted from books by Terry Deary. Deary”s first titles, The Terrible Tudors and The Awesome Egyptians, were published in 1993. By 2011, there were more than 60 titles in the series, with over 25 million copies sold in over 30 languages.

The CBBC version, which is co-produced with Lion Television, has seen four series so far, with a fifth on its way. There has also been a two 13 part series game show spin-off Horrible Histories: Gory Games. Citrus is also in production on Don”t Sit in the Front Row – a new Jack Dee series for Sky Atlantic.
