BBC 3 Comedy Uses Transatlantic Talent

BBC 3 has commissioned Cuckoo, a new six-part comedy series from indie producer Roughcut Television.

Filming this summer and airing later this year, Cuckoo stars comedy names from both sides of the Atlantic. It pits Saturday Night Live stalwart Andy Samberg (forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy That’;s My Boy) against British comedian Greg Davies (Inbetweeners).

Created and written by Robin French and Kieron Quirke, Cuckoo is set in the Midlands, home to the Thomas family. When Ken (Greg Davies) and Lorna (Helen Baxendale – Cold Feet, Kidnap and Ransom) collect their daughter (Tamla Kari) from the airport, they’;re horrified to learn that she’;s returned from her gap year with more than just a henna tattoo and braids in her hair. At the arrival gate, she promptly introduces them to her new husband, Cuckoo (Andy Samberg) – the self-appointed spiritual ninja who is now their son-in-law.

The six-part series will be executive produced for BBC Three by Chris Sussman, by Ash Atalla and Dan Hine for Roughcut and directed by Ben Taylor (Spy).

BBC 3”s Zai Bennett said: “We’;re delighted to be announcing this exciting new sitcom with such an illustrious cast from two of my favourite new writers.”

Executive Producer, Ash Atalla (The Office and The IT Crowd) added: “The best of British meets the toast of Hollywood. We hope Cuckoo cements the special relationship between our two great countries. I imagine Obama and Cameron will be watching closely.”
