The Unheard part of raft of scripted and unscripted orders

Kate Winslet and Maxine Peake will star in the next project from the team behind smash Netflix hit Adolescence.

Leading the drama titles of a wide-ranging scripted and unscripted slate of commissions, is Jack Thorne-penned five-parter The Unheard, from Warp Films, Matriarch Productions and Plan B. Winslet and Peake star as two sisters who go on the run after an act of vengeance goes wrong. As they are desperately pursued, viewers will find out what pushed them into the reckless act, and if it was their intention to get away with it.

Mark Herbert and Emily Feller exec produce for Warp, alongside Hannah Walters and Stephen Graham for Matriarch, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Nina Wolarsky for Plan B, and Winslet and Thorne. Mounia Akl will direct.

Elsewhere, Netflix is returning to the Top Boy universe with prequel and sequel from Cowboy Films.

Five-part prequel Jonny Boy sees Barry Keoghan reprise his role as Jonny the series, which explores the character’s origin story. It is created and written by Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett. Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind exec produce alongside Bennett for Easter Partisan Films, Keoghan and Des Byrne for Wolfcub Productions, Aubrey Graham and Adel Nur for DreamCrew Entertainment, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson for Fulwell Entertainment-owned SpringHill Studios and director Ali Abbas.

Meanwhile, Jaq (w/t) sees Jasmine Jobson returning as the popular Top Boy character in a six-part series created and written by Ryan Calais Cameron. It will also be exec produced by Steel, Flind, Bennett, Graham, Nur, Carter and Henderson, alongside Calais Cameron and Jobson.

Danny Brocklehurst is behind Untitled Dahl Stories for Adults, a six-part series weaving the twisted tales of iconic kids author Roald Dahl’s short stories, featuring a young couple, marooned in a faded seaside town, navigating conmen, adulterers, murderous mothers and snake charmers as they attempt to escape before their own fate is sealed.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials indie Orchid Pictures is producing, with Gabriel Silver and Suzanne Mackie exec producing for Orchid, alongside Brocklehurst, with Sarah Lewis series producing. Runyararo Mapfumo (Sex Education) helms block one, with Ben Gregor (Brassic) directing block two.

The series stars Naomi Scott, Josh Finan, Imelda Staunton, Nicola Coughlan, Toby Jones, Carmen Ejogo, Dominic West, Christine Tremarco, Michael Socha and Clarke Peters.

Orchid is also behind mockumentary Jig from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee. Set in the high-stakes world of competitive Irish dancing, the six-part series follows best friends Cara and Fletcher, from the struggling Sweeney School of Dance in Derry, take on their sworn rivals from a slick, sponsored, seemingly unbeatable operation in Florida.

McGee exec produces alongside Liz Lewin, Caroline Leddy and Mackie. Sophie Loizou (The Crown) is development producer across the Untitled Dahl Stories for Adults and Jig.

Also on the comedy slate is six-part Marbles, from Big Talk Studios and Robert Popper’s Popper Pictures, which follows Sam and Samantha – a middle-aged couple who are balancing raising lively young boys while caring for difficult ageing parents. Robert Webb leads the cast, alongside Timothy Spall, Alexandra Roach, Denise Welch and Louise Brealey.

Marbles is exec produced by Kenton Allen, Popper and Caroline Leddy.

Also on Netflix’s scripted slate is the previously announced How to Kill Your Family, Sid Gentle’s eight-part adaptation of Bella Mackie’s bestselling novel, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Clive Owen, Orlando Norman, David Shield.

Unscripted projects

Alongside the previously announced Workerbee project Beat Luke Littler, Netflix announced the commission of Outside, Sidemen Entertainment’s spin-off of its popular format Inside.

The series places a group of content creators in a forest to battle it out for a prize of up to £1m. With every comfort eating into the prize pot, they’ll face brutal decisions, unpredictable challenges and plenty of Sidemen mischief as they fight to keep hold of the cash.

The eight-parter is exec produced by Victor Bengtsson, Adam Cohen, Jack Richardson and The Sidemen.
