True North Productions wins Channel 4 double order

Yorkshire By the Sea and Devon & Cornwall secure return runs

True North Productions has scored a double Channel 4 order for its lifestyle series Yorkshire By the Sea and Devon & Cornwall.

Yorkshire By the Sea will return for a 5 x 60-minute second series, celebrating the people and coastal landscape of England’s largest county North Yorkshire and neighbouring East Yorkshire.

Set across the 100-mile stretch of shoreline across these two counties, the series follows locals who make a living by working on the coast, from the seaside resorts of Saltburn and Scarborough in the north to the shifting sands of Spurn Point in the south.

The series will also continue to explore how communities are facing the realities of climate change through innovation, industry and diversification, with some fighting to protect traditional ways of working, while others launch new ventures in an effort to safeguard the coastline’s wildlife.

Devon & Cornwall (5 x 60 minutes) will also return for a sixth outing, following daily life of locals, villagers, farmers, fishermen, shopkeepers and those working across the tourist industry.

Both series were commissioned for C4 by Jasper Hone, commissioning executive, with Jo Street, director of commissioning, nations and regions and head of lifestyle. The exec producer for True North is Christian Hills.

Hone said: “Both series have proved hugely popular with viewers thanks to their warmth, authenticity and the remarkable people at the heart of every story.

“It’s exciting to reconnect with the communities that have made these titles such enduring favourites, and I can’t wait to see what these new series reveal.”

Hills added: “By allowing these people to share their stories, narrated entirely in their own words and accompanied by stunning visuals, the series set a new benchmark for the genre, providing a refreshing and compelling look at life in these regions.”
