Paramount+ UK orders bank heist thriller
High-octane series hails from Girl Taken and Drops of God producers.
Paramount+ has ordered a ’high-octane’ bank heist thriller for its UK and Ireland service, based on Belgian drama De Dag.
The eight-part series is co-produced by Clapperboard Studios and Dynamic Television and will star Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting, Emily in Paris), Luca Pascqualino (Rivals, The Musketeers) and Louisa Harland (Renegade Nell, Derry Girls).
In The Day (w/t), events unfold across a single day when police stumble across a bank robbery mid-heist and the criminals barricade themselves, beginning a siege.
The action opens from the police perspective, led by hostage negotiator Sylvia “Vox” Voxley (Driver), as she battles time and rising pressure to save the hostages. The story later rewinds, taking viewers inside the bank to relive the same events through the eyes of the robbers and their hostages.
The UK adaptation is written by Ben Harris (Young Wallander, The Castaways) and Jesse O’Mahoney (The Castaways) and based on the 2018 Belgian series of the same name, created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu.
Paramount’s head of scripted and deputy chief content officer Sebastian Cardwell and commissioning editor Paul Testar ordered the series.
It is exec produced by Mike Benson and Andy Morgan for Clapperboard Studios, Daniel March for Dynamic Television, and Tamryn Reinecke.
Jake Rollins produces while brothers Andy and Ryan Tohill Brothers (Dalgliesh) co-direct.
The Day (w/t) is currently in production and will premiere on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland with Dynamic Television handling global distribution outside of these territories.
