House of Guinness star Ann Skelly to lead Honey cast
Cast unveiled for Sid Gentle’s Cold War thriller
House of Guinness star Ann Skelly is to lead the cast of BBC1 Cold War thriller Honey, produced by Killing Eve indie Sid Gentle Films.
The six-parter, jointly commissioned for BBC1 and ZDF, will be set in 1980s East Berlin.
Irish actor Skelly, who has also starred in Netflix’s The Sandman and HBO’s The Nevers, will play a deep cover agent for MI6 who finds herself drawn to two different men while trying to avoid detection by the Stasi.
She will be joined in the lead cast by Masters of the Air actor Nate Mann, Munich: The Edge of War star Jannis Niewöhner and The Diplomat star Rory Kinnear.
Other cast members include Oliver Cudbill, Sonita Henry, Victoria Mayer, Valentino Dalle Mura, July Namir, Julian Niedermeier, Sofia Oxenham and Daniel Zielinski.
Executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle said: “Everyone says that they couldn’t be more excited by the cast they have assembled but Ann, Nate and Jannis are the real deal. We are beyond thrilled by their inherent talent, intelligence and intuitive brilliance.”
The drama was commissioned by BBC drama director Lindsay Salt, and ZDF’s head of coproduction, international fiction ZDF Frank Seyberth, and will be produced in association with Fifth Season which will handle distribution.
Emma Moran is the lead writer and will executive produce alongside Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Films. The producer is Christopher Hall and the directors are Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill.
