Two Brother Pictures is behind Prime Video thriller

Prime Video has ordered a second series of The Assassin, written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced by their indie Two Brothers Pictures.

Production will begin later this year on the show with Keeley Hawes (Miss Austen) to reprise the role of former assassin Julie and Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor) to return as her estranged son Edward. Shalom Brune-Franklin (Baby Reindeer) will also return as Edward’s fiancée while Devon Terrell will play her brother.

The second series will pick up after Edward and Julie are once again estranged following a disastrous trip, but they are forced to reunite to take on Spain’s corrupt underworld

Hawes said: “I can’t wait to step back into Julie’s world. To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie’s life and her complicated relationship with Edward is a privilege.”

Produced in association with All3Media International, the 6 x 60 drama will be exec produced by Harry and Jack Williams with Hawes and Highmore, and Sarah Hammond, Alex Mercer and Daisy Mount for Two Brothers Pictures.

John Griffin is a producer, while Terry McDonough – who also serves as an executive producer – will direct the first three episodes and Sarah O’Gorman will directed the last three. Jessica Mescall is the casting director.

Mount and Alex Mercer said: “Reuniting with Keeley, Freddie, Shalom, and Devon is a real privilege as we dive back into the world of The Assassin – of course we couldn’t leave them sailing off into the sunset in blissful harmony. The second season is full of twists, turns and thrilling unpredictability – just like the characters at the centre of it.”

The first series sold to AMC+ in the US, Crave and CTV Drama Channel in Canada, NBCUniversal LATAM, DR (Denmark), SVT (Sweden), VRT (Flemish Belgium), NPO (The Netherlands), HBO Max (France), Mediaset (Spain and Italy), Cosmote (Greece), HOT (Israel), Freedom Media (Kazakhstan), and Evision (Middle East).

Across the Asia-Pacific region, The Assassin is licensed by Stan in Australia, SkyFree in New Zealand, BBC Studios across Asia and India, Wowow in Japan and Sohu in China.
