Eve Myles, David Morrissey head ITV drama from Hijack creator
The psychological thriller is from the creator of The Long Shadow, Hijack and Lupin
Eve Myles and David Morrissey head the cast of a new ITV drama from Hijack and Lupin screenwriter George Kay.
Gone is a six-part psychological thriller, directed by Richard Laxton and co-produced by New Pictures and Kay’s Observatory Pictures, in association with All3Media International.
The story is set against the backdrop of a prestigious private school, with headmaster Michael Polly (Morrissey) becoming the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. Myles plays gusty, bright Detective Annie Cassidy, who chips away at his orderly, inscrutable façade to find the truth, in a game of cat and mouse.
The supporting cast includes Emma Appleton, Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barrett, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.
Kay launched Observatory Pictures just over a year ago, in an exclusive, multi-year collaboration deal with New Pictures.
Mark Hedges produces Gone; Kay, Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford are the executive producers.
The drama is partly inspired by the book “To Hunt a Killer” and the career and work of former Detective Superintendent for Gloucestershire Police, Julie Mackay, and ITV crime correspondent Robert Murphy who has reported on some of the biggest and most complex cases in the West of England. Both Mackay and Murphy serve as consultants on the series.
Writer Kay said: “After teaming up with ITV and New Pictures for true crime drama The Long Shadow, I’m delighted to be working with them again to create a new police drama. Inspired by real life research, Gone sees the excellent Eve Myles’s overlooked Detective Annie Cassidy go head-to-head with main suspect Michael Polly, played by the superb David Morrissey.
In a story about privilege and prejudice, the truth is tantalisingly close. Or at least, that’s what Annie thinks…”
