The drama is described as Jack Thorne’s ‘first ever love story’

Filming begins in Wales today (14 April) on Falling, a new Channel 4 drama from Jack Thorne.

The 6 x 60’ series is produced by The Forge Entertainment and is described by the broadcaster as Thorne’s ‘first ever love story’.

The story centres on devoted nun Anna who, having spent most of her adult life in a convent, meets Catholic priest David, a man deeply committed to his work. When the pair fall in love, they face a huge challenge in dealing with the implications for their sacred vows and relationship with God.

Falling is exec produced by George Ormond, George Faber and Thorne. The producer is Joe Donaldson and the director is Peter Hoar. It was commissioned by Ollie Madden, director of Film4 and Channel 4 drama and Gwawr Lloyd, commissioning editor, drama. Falling will be distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.

At the time of the commissioning news, Madden said: “Falling is a beautifully observed, achingly romantic drama about two people who can’t deny the feelings they have for one another, and yet battle with the crisis of faith their relationship triggers.

“Jack Thorne’s scripts are not only profoundly moving, but quietly subversive, witty, and revelatory in their examination of religion in contemporary society. We couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Jack, The Forge, and the brilliant Peter Hoar on this unique drama.”

Ormond added: “Jack has created two central characters in Anna and David who feel deeply but hold their faith equally deeply. That puts them in an impossible position and makes for a fantastically compelling, richly rewarding love story that is moving and insightful in equal measure.”
