All Creatures Great and Small 6 is shooting in various locations in Yorkshire

Production is underway (w/c 24 February) on the sixth series of All Creatures Great and Small for Playground Entertainment.

The 6 x 60’ series is based on James Herriot’s popular collection of stories. Brian Percival is back in the director’s chair for series six, having previously helmed three series.

Filming will run for around four months in Yorkshire, true to the story setting, with the production receiving funding and film office support from Screen Yorkshire, and will be broadcast on Channel 5.

Much of the filming takes place in the historic village of Grassington, located within the Dales National Park, which plays the village of Darrowby.

Yvonne Francas is producing the series, with executive producers including Aaron Anderson, Colin Callender, David Swetman, Louise Pedersen, Paul Testar, Rebecca Eaton, Seb Cardwell and Susanne Simpson.

The series is produced by Playground for Channel 5 and MASTERPIECE in collaboration with All3Media International. When the announcement was made for the commissioning of both series 5 and 6, Paul Testar, the commissioning editor at Channel 5 and Paramount+, stated: “We’re thrilled that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to Channel 5 for two more series. The show has captured the hearts of our audience, and we are dedicated to bringing even more of James Herriot’s unforgettable stories to our viewers. We can’t wait to share this next chapter.”

Playground is a New York and London-based production company founded in 2012 by Colin Callender. Recent productions include The Mirror & The Light, the latest adaptation in the Wolf Hall canon.
