The second series of the Channel 4 comedy will see the return of the two lead actors, Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West

Channel 4 comedy Big Mood will return for a second run, with Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West returning to star.

Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions makes the show, that is written and created by Camilla Whitehill. Series One was Channel 4 streaming’s highest new comedy launch since Derry Girls.

Coughlan plays Maggie, a writer with bipolar disorder, with West as best friend Eddie, whose relationship is tested by pressures of work, mental health and life in general…

Rebecca Asher returns to direct Series 2 with Lotte Beasley Mestriner also back as executive producer along with Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions.

Whitehill said: “I had no plan B and zero transferable skills so I am overjoyed to be bringing Big Mood back for another round! Discovering that there are actually loads of weirdos who like the same weirdo stuff as me has been a real privilege.

“My eternal love and gratitude go to everyone at Channel 4, Dancing Ledge and Fremantle for their fierce support and hard work. My ongoing blackmail campaign against Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West continues in earnest. They’ll never escape me.”

Coughlan – who has been friends with writer Whitehill since drama school – enthused: “Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show. It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story. Rats at the ready.”

Laurence Bowen, CEO of Dancing Ledge Productions and executive producer, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Big Mood has been recommissioned by the wonderful Channel 4.

“The success of series one is a testament to Camilla’s exceptional writing and the brilliant central performances from Nicola and Lydia, whose chemistry brought the perfect balance of heart, humour, energy and authenticity to the show. It’s been fantastic to see how audiences have embraced the show across the world, and we’re excited to build on that in series two.”
