Space Film Studios, Locations London in managing partnership deal
Space Film Studios has a large area of backlot with potential build space
Locations London has agreed exclusivity to manage Space Film Studios, a large backlot and build space in Bovingdon, on the Hertfordshire/Buckinghamshire border.
The site – already primed as backlot and with the possibility of further builds – comprises approx. 180 acres of open space, including a concrete runway of approx. 650m x 60m, a 9-acre woodland, a farmyard with 17th century barns, a Grade II-listed farmhouse dating back to around the 16th century, a 16th century village pub and stables with yard, indoor and outdoor arenas and open fields with uninterrupted views.
Productions to have used the space to date include: Masters of the Air, where the concentration camp and towers set was built; Fast and Furious 6; Justice League; Fury; Bohemian Rhapsody; The Man From Uncle; Britannia and Spectre.
Space Film Studios sits alongside existing film and TV studio Bovingdon Airfield Studios.
Myles Waud of Locations London said of the new agreement: “This is an exciting relationship, as there is currently such high demand for backlot space now, due to many of the studio sites increasing their site density to accommodate more rentable internal build spaces.
“Furthermore, with the success of the neighbouring Bovingdon Airfield Studios site, there is an opportunity to create a thriving production hub in Bovingdon”.
Phil Thornton of Space Film Studios added: “It was really pleasing to have Locations London on board, to propel this amazing site forward in a proactive way. Locations London can communicate superbly with prospective productions and generate the best out of the relatively untapped potential”.
