In our latest Location Spotlight, we talk to location co-ordinator Georgia Brown of Amazing Space, about the vast range of locations they manage, how things have changed in the 25 years since the company was established and why they’re always on the lookout for farms and country estates…

The last 25 years

Amazing Space Locations has been established for more than 25 years, having provided thousands of locations for the film, TV and photographic industry. Our strong relationships between production teams, location managers, photographers and location owners has helped grow Amazing Space into one of the leading location agencies in London.

Traditionally, enquiries came through from production companies, and they still do, however we’re seeing an influx in the amount of production companies out there, albeit smaller. We’re also seeing a large number of brands reach out to us directly for content shoots, meaning our client base has significantly grown over the last few years.

Nonetheless, people have always wanted to shoot in a hugely diverse range of locations, meaning libraries like ours hold many more locations than they ever used to and are a rich source of suggestions. Many properties are interested in being filmed as it’s a much more accessible process nowadays, which is a great thing for the industry.

Overall remit

A location agency is there to make the location selection process effortless, from initial briefs to invoicing. An enquiry may start from suggesting appropriate locations to match the productions requirements, to arranging recces, handling financial negotiations and finally, drawing up detailed contracts and invoices. In essence, we handle all the necessary location arrangements to ensure a smooth and successful shoot.

Managing more than 5,000 locations for a wide range of clients

The Amazing Space library is made up of over 5,000 locations across the UK, ranging from country estates to warehouses, ordinary family homes to penthouses, farmland to photography studios, to name but a few…

We take on dozens of new locations each week so this number is continually expanding, meaning we can provide fresh suggestions to our clients. Many of our locations are internationally recognised – including stately homes, Kew Gardens, the London Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park and Chatham Dockyard in Kent, which is one of the most-filmed locations in the UK.

In the world of photography, we’ve recently hosted Harvey Nichols AW24 collection at one of our country estates in Bedfordshire, as well as Adidas at a family home in south-west London, and an amazing British Vogue editorial shot in bluebell woods in Buckinghamshire.

For music videos, we’ve hosted Ed Sheeran, Rag ‘N’ Bone Man and Dizzee Rascal, and have worked on commercials for TK Maxx, McDonalds, Jo Malone and most recently, Waitrose, with their 2024 Christmas advert. Other production credits include: The Great Escaper, Killing Eve, Luther, Bridgerton, Slow Horses, Gangs of London, The Devil’s Hour, Mickey 17 and Top Boy.

Boarding a project

In dramas and feature films, location agencies are typically approached by the location manager or the location scout early in the pre-production phase, when we step in to help find and secure locations that fit the creative vision and practical needs of the production.

Similarly for commercials and music videos, we’re generally approached by the location manager who acts as a bridge between production team and the location agency. This approach streamlines the location selection process, ensuring that the creative vision is matched with practical, accessible options for filming.

Your Top 5 locations…

There are locations that are popular on our library because they offer a truly unique shoot experience, offering a space that is completely different to the rest. The warehouse apartment (RES-1404) is one of those locations!

This incredible space gets inundated with enquiries and for good reason: it’s flooded with natural light from the enormous windows, double height ceilings are both visually stunning and mean more space for tricky camera movements, and not to mention it’s extremely shoot friendly

There are also locations that are popular for foregoing interior trends and being fantastically retro. We have a south-east London family home (RES-11222) that is an untouched gem – it really does look as though it could be your gran’s house, but it’s this exact reason that keep the enquiries coming in! The bold colours, vintage furniture, and period-specific décor create a visually rich setting that’s really popular among filmmakers and photographers.

Farms make gorgeous shoot locations, and we’re continually on the lookout for new farmyards or country estates to join our library. One of our favourites, Castle Farm (RUR-11771, pictured at start of feature), is an ideal filming location due to its picturesque landscapes, expansive lavender fields, and rustic farm buildings that provide a beautiful, natural backdrop. Its proximity to London makes it easily accessible for production crews, while the varied scenery—from vibrant lavender blooms in summer to rolling green fields year-round—offers a versatile setting.

Modernist houses are always a personal favourite when it comes to filming locations; they’re spacious, visually striking and incredibly stylish so it was impossible to choose just one from our database.

Two of our favourite modernist houses (RES-1396 and RES-1552) are very similar in feel, and both are sought after shoot locations in their own right.

Arguably, you can’t find a more unique and truly amazing location than our industrial wind tunnel in Hampshire (IND-3000). This impressive space is no stranger when it comes to location filming having hosted music videos, feature films, documentaries and TV dramas.

With many thanks to location co-ordinator Georgia Brown at Amazing Space.
