Production has begun in Manchester on Film Club, a romantic comedy drama for BBC Three starring Aimee Lou Wood, Suranne Jones and Nabhaan Rizwan, and written by Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis.
Made by Gaumont, the 6 x 30’ series centres on Evie (Wood) whose weekly film club is the main thing that she looks forward to in her life, as she shares her Friday nights watching a movie with her best friend Noa (Rizwan).
But when Noa announces he is heading to the other side of the country for a new job, reality hits them both that their friendship could be something more… Adam Long, Liv Hill and co-writer Davis also co-star.
Anna Jordan joins the writing team for episode four. The series is produced by Gaumont UK with the support of ZDFneo. Stella Merz produces and Catherine Morshead directs. Executive producers are Wood, Alison Jackson and Jamie Jackson for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC. International sales will be handled by Fremantle.
Wood said: “I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week. We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour.”
Alison Jackson, President of Gaumont UK and executive producer on Film Club, says: “We are delighted to announce these wonderful actors – we couldn’t be more thrilled to have our dream cast for this precious show. It’s a real reflection of the fabulous scripts and we can’t wait to bring them to life.”
