Manchester-based Quay Street Productions, well-known for shooting in north-west locations, is readying to film a new BBC thriller in Cardiff, with backing from Creative Wales.

The Guest stars Eve Myles and Gabrielle Creevy as a successful business owner, Fran and her employee, Ria, whose toxic and intense relationship leads to a manipulative game of cat and mouse. Sion Daniel Young, Emun Elliott, Bethan Mary-James, Julian Lewis Jones, Joseph Ollman, Clive Russell and Catherine Ayers are among the supporting cast.

A co-commission with BBC Cymru Wales, the 4 x 60’ drama has been written and created by Matthew Barry, who will also exec produce alongside Nicola Shindler, Davina Earl, Rebecca Ferguson and Nick Andrews. Ashley Way directs; Karen Lewis produces.

Writer Barry said: “I’m beyond excited to be re-teaming with Nicola, Davina and the whole team at Quay Street Productions and the BBC to bring The Guest to life. As well as being an exciting thriller, at its core this is an examination of class, social mobility and the growing disparity between those at the top and bottom of our society.”

Exec producers Earl and Shindler added: “We’re so thrilled to be working with Matt again, this time on a thriller with two fascinating women at its heart. Matt’s scripts are not only full of tension and twists but deeply relatable characters and his trademark wit and humour.”
