Vigil Series 2 starts filming in Glasgow

VigilThe second series of BBC One thriller Vigil begins filming today, 27 March, in Glasgow, with some shooting due to take place in Morocco. 

World Productions makes the high-octane drama, that is written by Tom Edge. In the second series, Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) are tasked with uncovering the cause of multiple unexplained fatalities at a Scottish military facility, as they come up against the closed and hostile ranks of the air force. 

The 6 x 60 drama films for four months, with episodes by Maryam Hamidi, James Smythe and Ryan O’Sullivan and Matilda Wnek. Andy De Emmony directs; Marcus Wilson produces. The associate producer is George Aza-Selinger, while executive producers are Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, and writer Edge. 

Jones said of her return to the lead role for Series 2: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Vigil team again and continuing our story. We have brilliant new scripts and some amazing additions to the cast. Buckle up. It’s quite a ride”, while creator/writer Edge added: “I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre, and am grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure.

Executive producers Heath and Lushington remarked: “We’re excited to be taking the Silva & Longacre investigative partnership into a very different part of the British military, high in the skies rather than deep underwater. We’re also delighted to welcome to the cast two brilliant actors we’ve worked with on previous World shows, Romola Garai and Dougray Scott.”

 

The first series of Vigil was UK television’s most-watched new drama launch since Bodyguard in 2018, attracting over 13 million viewers.

The fictional series will film in Scotland and Morocco from the Spring. Vigil series one is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
