C4 orders zombie satire from Ben Wheatley
A new 6-part series written and directed by Ben Wheatley has been commissioned by C4.
Generation Z satirises the generation divide in small-town Britain as it pits a group of disenfranchised teenagers against the zombie-infected residents of a retirement home.
The Forge will produce the dark comedy for Channel 4 with shooting set for next year.
It marks Wheatley’s first originally created TV project; he also executive produces alongside Mark Pybus and George Faber.
Caroline Hollick, head of drama at Channel 4, said: “Ben is a unique creative force, and I’m delighted that he’s bringing this hilarious, frightening and political horror series to Channel 4. I can’t wait to see him transform the zombie genre into something both outrageous and cannily perceptive”.
The Forge is currently in post on The Light, its third in a trilogy of drama collaborations with Jack Thorne for Channel 4 following National Treasure and Kiri. The company also recently completed filming on the third series of Ackley Bridge.
