Director Justin Lin steps back from Fast 10
Justin Lin has stepped away from the director’s chair for the tenth in the franchise of high-octane Fast & Furious films, which had just started shooting.
As first confirmed on Production Intelligence, filming began on the action thriller on 20 April at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with Vin Diesel reprising his role of Dominic Toretto.
Lin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Mazeau, will remain on board as producer.
Lin’s statement – shared on social media, including the official 'Fast' Twitter account - read: “With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of Fast X, while remaining with the project as a producer.”
“Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases. On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history.
“I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the FAST family.”
It is understood that second unit filming will continue while the hunt for a new director gets underway.
