Luckings at the Olympics

With the games soon with us, Luckings has been very busy helping a number of suppliers getting everything ready for London Olympics 2012. Recently we’ve brought back the BBC’s filming equipment from Euro 2012 that was held in Poland and delivered straight to the Stadium in Stratford.
We have been on hand to transport the lighting for the opening ceremony, set pieces for the Ice Hockey and sailing equipment to Weymouth. Just a few examples of how Luckings has done its bit to help make the London Olympics one to remember. “Come on team GB”

Additions to our fleet
We have recently taken delivery of one of the two new 4 x 2 MAN 18t Rigids that were ordered in response to the overwhelming demand for London Emission Zone Compliant Rigids on the run up to the Olympics.

These Euro 5 fuel efficient trucks have been especially kitted to service the needs of the entertainment sector namely 2.59m internal height and load lock points for restraining items to a section of the storage area. The vehicles are fitted with a columnar tail-lift as standard.
The MAN Rigids were not the cheapest during the selection process. It was due to our on-going commitment to be a responsible logistics supplier by choosing sustainable and eco-friendly options that has resulted in the company deciding to go with MAN. “Although higher upfront costs we believe that the innovative exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) and common rail injection system should result in savings in fuel consumption and consequently lower emissions in the long run” says Ops Director Adrian Scanlon.
MAN also won hands down in terms of its spacious cab and interior features which are quite important for our drivers who often spend weeks away from base. With a dealer based R&M (repair and maintenance) service contract and a European wide breakdown/recovery option added to the package MAN were the obvious winners in the race.
As a consequence we have already placed an order for 5 brand new MAN tractor units to be introduced into our fleet over the next few months. Details to be confirmed in our next newsletter.

Luckings in Venice
Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? Of course not, It’s a Luckings truck on a moto-pontoon! We were recently approached by one of our clients wanting to send a mega curtainsider via a moto pontoon to the isle of Venice, for an event at the Hilton Hotel. Not ones to turn down a challenge, we undertook the journey and worked with all parties involved to ensure that the trip was planned and undertaken with military precision.
After the event we discovered that an eagle-eyed photographer in venice captured the moment that the truck was transported from the mainland to the island on a moto-pontoon. Our driver Thomas made sure he had taken his sea legs on the day in question.

In summary our transport Manager John Saunders says, “Whilst we don’t claim to be able to walk on water, whatever needed, wherever wanted, we will get it there!”
Luckings in Amsterdam
We’ve just successfully completed the latest leg of the fantastic “Master and Margarita” European tour for Complicité, putting the three mega trailer show into Stadsschouwburg theatre in Amsterdam.
The show has arrived in Amsterdam fresh from Recklinghausen in Germany following it’s trail through Luxembourg, Spain, and Austria with upcoming shows in France and a return to Spain to finish off the tour.
Our three drivers on the show Andrius, Roger, and Michael have been keeping us regularly updated along the way and sent us this fantastic picture of the get-in in Amsterdam.
In a city where space is at a premium, the only way is up!
All three trailers on site needed to be backed into a narrow bay (whilst dodging the trams!) and the trailer unloaded by sending the entire trailer up an oversized vehicle lift to the third floor. (see lead picture)

Luckings selected for Katie Melua Tour

Luckings are mid way through trucking Katie Melua on her tour across Europe. We have been transporting equipment from London to Scandanavia and across Europe ending in Spain over the course of 6 weeks. So far the tour has been progressing smoothly and we can’t wait to update the site with pictures from the show.
Set Disposal & Storage

Did you know that Luckings are a certified waste carrier enabling us to dispose of your set in an environmentally friendly way.
We are registered and policed by the Environment Agency Number EAN/949377.

If you decide you want to keep the set then we can arrange for storage (long or short term) to make sure the set is in pristine condition the next time you want to use it.

Lucking’s and the local community
We recently donated the use of two of our mega curtainside trailers to the Woodley Carnival, to aid St Dominics Primary School and Street Feet Dance Group with their floats.
Both groups wanted to decorate and customise our trailers to make creative and eye catching floats for the carnival procession on Saturday the 9th of June 2012.

From the feedback we’ve had back, it’s hard to say who enjoyed the day more, the children or our drivers! More information can be found out about Woodley carnival at
