Westminster Media Forum: BFI New Blueprint For The Future
BFI CEO Amanda Nevill used her session at last week”s Westminster Media Forum Seminar on The UK film industry (April 18) to reveal that the BFI has developed a new blueprint for the future that will be opened up for industry consultation on May 14th.
Emphasising education, innovation, investment in new voices and protection of film heritage, Nevill said the consultation would invite recommendations on how the BFI should spend the £57m per annum it is expected to receive from the National Lottery for the next five years.
“Our emphasis is going to be on the entrepreneurial. It is up to us to take risks private money cannot and to grow future audiences… we are determined to be bold and brave and we will try things we haven”t done before.”
Nevill”s comments were part of a high-powered line up which looked at the current state of the UK film industry, the opportunities presented by emerging technologies such as on-demand and 3D, the development of new talent and the government”s policy priorities regarding British Film.
Execs involved included National Film and Television School director Nick Powell, Head of BBC Films Christine Langan, Creative England chief executive Caroline Norbury, Pinewood”s corporate affairs director Andrew Smith and MP Kevin Barron, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Film Industry Group.
