Stephen Poliakoff prepares Close to the Enemy

Acclaimed auteur Stephen Poliakoff is preparing to shoot his next major drama for the BBC, Close to the Enemy.

Filming begins in late March on locations including Manchester and Liverpool on the drama, which is geared for delivery to BBC Two. Little is known about the project in terms of plot or casting, but it is thought to be loosely inspired by Poliakoff’s Dancing on the Edge, in that it will be a period piece set against a musical backdrop. Dancing on the Edge centred on a London-based black jazz band in the early 1930s, and went on to be nominated for three Golden Globes.

Close to the Enemy comes from Little Island Productions and producer Helen Flint. (Flint founded the shingle in 2013). Hilary Bevan Jones of Endor Productions is executive producer.

Those of you following the project on Production Intelligence will know that on the site we have details of the shoot dates, casting director, production designer, production co-ordinator, line producer and production manager.
