Netflix” The Crown readies for Series 2

The second series of Peter Morgan”s The Crown is in early pre-production, with filming due to get underway in the autumn.

Netflix is working on the premise that the lavish drama could run to six seasons in all, with a reported £100m in their budget for the show.

The first series began filming in July last year and will be released on 4 November this year. With a production base at a north London studio, it also took in UK locations including Ely Cathedral, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire. The production also travelled to South Africa. It stars Claire Foy as the young Queen and Matt Smith as Prince Philip.

The Crown is loosely based on Morgan”s West End hit The Audience, which portrays the Queen as she meets her many Prime Minsters over the course of her lengthy reign. Left Bank Pictures is behind the show, which counted Stephen Daldry among its directors the first time around.
