Major new drama series on the birth of Britain
A massive new television drama about the birth of Great Britain is in the pipeline, with filming anticipated to take place in Wales next spring.
The 10 x 60 series, called Britannia, which is also anticipated to incorporate a pilot, covers the historical development of the nation from Roman times, and is for delivery to Sky.
The production certainly seems to capture the current appetite for ancient history and legend drama: ITV’s heftily ambitious Beowulf spent seven months of this year filming on a massive set at Eastdale quarry in the north east, and Carnival’s adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories, The Last Kingdom, filmed for six months on location in Budapest.
