Horror film The Morrigan shoots in Northern Ireland with Saffron Burrows
Filming gets underway in Northern Ireland on Monday (6 November) on The Morrigan, the second feature from writer-director Colum Eastwood.
Belfast-based Eastwood, one of Screen’s Stars of Tomorrow three years ago, has developed feature The Morrigan from his 2015 horror short of the same name; he directs from his own screenplay.
Saffron Burrows stars as Fiona, a successful archaeologist – and absent mother – who goes to Ireland to excavate an ancient tomb. However, the site has been hiding a danger for hundreds of years.
Once the force is released, Fiona must fight to save her rebellious teenage daughter from becoming possessed by The Morrigan, a Pagan war goddess seeking revenge. Toby Stephens and James Cosmo co-star.
The producers are Gavin Cosmo Mehrtens and Ashley Holberry of Cowboy Cosmonaut Films; the film’s backers include Northern Ireland Screen.
