BFI Unveils Lottery Funding Winners
The beefed-up BFI has unveiled its first slate of Lottery funding awards after taking over responsibility for the cash from the UK Film Council. The headline-grabber is Jonathan Glazer’;s sci-fi project Under the Skin, which secured £1.8 million towards its development and production budgets.
Big beneficiaries include Vertigo Films’; Streetdance Encore, which received £500,000 (the UKFC gave the previous Streetdance movie £1m).
Another is Shadow Dancer, produced by Unanimous Pictures and Element Pictures, which has Clive Owen in the cast. Here, £750,000 was offered by way of development finance. Meanwhile, Welcome to the Punch (starring James McAvoy) secured £500,000 for production.
The Edinburgh Film Festival and Sheffield Documentary Festival were also given money from the BFI”s recently announced transitional fund. Edinburgh got £19,620 while Sheffield got £77,452. All told, the total number of projects to benefit is around 30.
