Reel Impact opens for second round of applications

Reel Impact is now open for applications for the second round of funding, this time open to submissions from across the UK, not just London
Run by the Film and TV Charity, Reel Impact supports and uplifts Black and Global Majority talent. The scheme was designed specifically for experienced mid-to-senior level professionals, as opposed to those starting out in the industry, to recognise that these individuals are already skilled at their craft but often remain disadvantaged by the industry.
The Charity has acted on feedback received from the first round and has made some changes, refining grant eligibility and the application process. These changes include:
- Clearer grant themes: Individuals are invited to apply for grants up to £10,000 to support personal development while organisations can apply for funds up to £25,000 to support organisational development or for work to advance race equity
- Revised criteria: Criteria has been updated to better reflect the focus on mid-senior level Black and Global Majority talent.
- Application process: there is now a two-stage application process to make applying clearer and easier and more transparent.
- Peer Assessors: Peer Assessors have been introduced to centre Black and Global Majority voices at the heart of the decision-making process.
- Applications from across the UK: the Charity is also underlining the importance of securing applications from across the UK, recognising regional, not just London talent.
Individuals can apply for up to £10,000 and organisations up to £25,000. Applications are open from today, 4 March 2025 until 23.59 on 31 March 2025.
Launched in 2022, the aim of Reel Impact remains to support the creation of a more inclusive, equitable, and anti-racist industry that properly recognises and values the expertise of its Black and Global Majority members.
Previous awardees include organisations such as the TV Collective, Wonder Women, FilmD Hit, and Mama Youth Project, with individuals including Dean Leon Anderson, Georgie Yukiko Donovan, and Samantha Fray.
Anita Herbert, Reel Impact programme manager, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the achievements of the awardees from the first round of Reel Impact, and am enjoying watching their journeys unfold! I am also excited to see what projects and activities emerge from the next round of funding applications.
“With improvements made to our processes and more clarity on what we are looking for, I hope that applicants will apply for a chance to bring their visions to life and ignite much needed change in the industry. The team will also be hosting information webinars in March, giving people an opportunity to ask any questions they may have.”
