Krypton gears up for October filming
American TV drama Krypton is deep into pre-production in Belfast with a start date for filming now set for next month.
Production Intelligence subscribers can log in for details on the schedule for principal photography on the prequel drama, which is set on Superman’s home planet years before the superhero is born.
It comes from production companies Phantom Four and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, and is the first production to film at Belfast Harbour Studios.
The new facility comprises two sound stages of around 36,000 sq ft each, which can be opened up to create a single filming space.
Richard Williams, CEO of Northern Ireland Screen, said of the news when it was announced earlier this summer: “Securing Krypton is a real coup for us and cements our position as a world-class filming location with a local and highly-skilled crew base with vast experience.
“The construction of the new studios by Belfast Harbour has added tremendous value to our overall proposition.”
Belfast famously houses fantasy drama Game of Thrones, which has had its production base at Titanic Studios since it began in 2010. The eighth and final season is due to begin filming next month.
PI subscribers can log in and follow the show for more on the start date and key names.
